Hope everyone is staying cool in this humidity. This may be the year that I break down and by an air conditioner -_- I found out in May that FAO Schwarz would be closing it's Fifth Ave location and relocating. Even though I have lived in the city for awhile I had never been. I asked Boba if he wanted to go there on a date since it had been a long time since he'd been there.
I thought it would be a good idea for us to stop by Dainobu to grab some snacks for the day. On the way we passed by Midtown Comics and decided to stop in. I saw the Jem and the Holograms comics and could not resist since I heard rave reviews for it. And since they were having a Memorial Day sale I should grab a few things. I also have an account with them. The lady at the counter recommended we check my account first just in case it was more of a discount than the sale. I ended up getting all three volumes for $3 due to my account^^ I have no idea why it was so low but I ain't complainin!
We continued on our way to Dainobu. We loaded up like crazy with onigiri, takoyaki, and sweets like daifuku. It was my first time taking Boba, and I think he really liked the store. They also have fav drink, Mango Skal, in a large size #bless
Boba suggested we walk over to FAO. I forgot how annoying it can be to walk on 5th Ave. I'm typically not in that area because most of the shops are ridiculously expensive and it's always crowded. It wasn't too bad because we weren't in a hurry.
By the time we reached the store, we both had worked up an appetite with the heat and all our walking. We sat in mini park right outside FAO and devoured our food. I snapped a few pictures of the iconic toy soldier before went in.
Walking inside I was instantly in awe over how large some of the toys were. There were these huge stuffed animals. Ugh I wish I could buy them all.
They even had a Zoltar booth from the movie Big. There's always one on Saint Mark's. It's been there for awhile, but doesn't look as nice as the one at FAO.
Next we headed further back to explore the candy section. It smelled like heaven and a sugar rush mixed together^^ The candy sizes were freakin huge! They had huge chocolate bars and unusual flavors. It felt like stepping into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
I consumed way too many Air Heads in high school. Blue raspberry was my ish! The strawberry flavor was my second favorite. Ah those where the days!
They even had a place where you could create your own muppet!
It's so funny that Kermit's voice is so iconic, that when I read the ipad I automatically heard his voice in my head.
Next we headed upstairs, it was like a maze up there with so many cool sections.
Hey where's Pearl? She's a Crystal Gem too!
Aww poor thing, that telescope was super expensive
I wanted to buy so much stuff from the Rilakkuma and Hello Kitty sections
Grrrrrr
The view of the first floor from upstairs
*sings* Everything is awesome!!!!
Tuckered out and exhausted we headed back to Boba's to relax. It was pretty crowded because most people were off for Memorial Day. When we made it back to Boba's I read all of my Jem comics while he played Destiny. Ima really need for IDW to release vol 4 stat. Afterwards, we watched Steven Universe together. We binge watched the show in a few weeks. I haven't seen any episodes from the new season yet, but from the few gifs I've seen on Tumblr it looks amazing. Ugh my Steven Universe thirst is so real.
I had such a good time at FAO Schwarz and am grateful that I got to see this amazing landmark before it moves to a different location. If you are in the NYC area before and can stop by before they relocate, I would def suggest you go before it closes soon!
