I was ecstatic that I got to attend NY Comic Con. I missed going to the 2012 one due to being in China. This was my second time attending, and it was really nice. NYCC was the first convention I ever attended, my first time going was in 2011.
This was also my first time cosplaying! I've been wanting to cosplay for a long time. Since Boba is a huge geek/nerd, I decided to ask him to do a couple cosplay with me. I figured why not kill two birds with one stone : ) He was totally down with the idea. I thought it was super cute how he responded yes without any hesitation.
Next came the hard part trying to pick a cosplay! haha There are SO many options for a couple cosplay, and I really wanted to go with a series that I knew and loved. I also wanted something that was relatively easy to put together. My first thought was Ash and Pikachu, but I wasn't completely sold on it. I like the idea of Boba as Ash, but not me as Pikachu. Then I thought what about Misty?!
I ordered everything a month or two before the con. Our costumes came fairly quickly. I thought that they looked really awesome! Especially Boba's!!! His costume was super on point. Everything arrived except for one essential piece: my wig!!!!! A few days before and it still hadn't arrived. I didn't know whether or not I should still do the cosplay. I decided f it! Cosplay is all about fun! I'm gonna find a cheap orange wig and rock this! I found one from Ricky's the day before the con. So excuse my crappy wig. The one I originally arrived two weeks later.
Here's what we ended up with!
I bought my ticket super early. Boba had to ask off from work, so I waited a bit to get his ticket. I hoped that we would out soon because I def did not want to wait in line the day of to pick up his ticket. Luckily, he found out that he had the day off. I went to a few places and snagged one of the last Saturday tickets available for him! The place that I went to ended up selling out the next day. Apparently this year ish was real and getting tickets was hard at the last minute.
Boba and I woke up early to try to get to the con when it opened. We discovered that something was wrong with the subways. Fortunately, we only arrived about 30 minutes later than we planned. I always love walking with everyone to the Javits Center and checking out the different cosplays.
Once we made it to the center and scanned our badges (it was super quick and easy) we made our way inside to wait in the super long line. I took a picture, but it didn't capture how packed it was. My friend Tiffany from work also attended. She wasn't that far ahead of me in the line, so we decided to meet up at the top of the stairs.
There were a lot of times that we had to sit down and take a rest for a bit. We sat down in our area where they had a live competition for StarCraft. They even had international players! It was super legit and got crowded super fast. Boba plays StarCraft, so he was super into it!
There vendors were okay. They was a lot of J-Fashion and publishing companies, so that was refreshing. I really did miss the anime section that they had upstairs in 2011. It even had its own artist's alley for manga/anime art. I saw a booth that had a kigurumi, but I wanted to check and see if I could find it a little cheaper somewhere else first. I ended up coming back and buying it.
There was this delicious Korean style hot dog place. I had spotted during my first NYCC, but didn't try it back then. I am so happy that I gave it a chance this year!
There were some interesting comments (and one ignorant comment) while we were walking around. A girl was talking to her friend and pointing at Boba. She was like, "Oh my god, it's Ash!" I was busy looking at something, but I could hear her. So see's like fangirling her ass off to her friend. She finally sneaks over and asks Boba to take a picture with her. He did and afterwards she fangirled away. She saw me with him and didn't even ask me to be in it or acknowledge me -_- She thought she was slick, girl bye.
Another girl asked Boba where his Pikachu was and he tightened his arm around me and said "I caught this one instead." I was so proud of my baby and his geek game haha
And now for the ignorant comment. Boba and I ran into a co-worker who has a t-shirt line. He usually has a booth at Comic Con every year. When he saw our cosplay for the first thing out of his mouth was that Misty isn't black. I've been reading online about a lot of offensive comments made to black cosplayers at conventions. The whole this-insert character's name here-isn't black is one of the most common remarks. I was like um, no and Boba and I left. Boba said the he didn't appreciate the comment. Times like this make me really happy that I am dating someone that understands, listens, and recognizes these kinds of issues. We refused to let it ruin our time.
Afterwards we went to GameStop to pick up my reserved copy of Pokemon Y that had come out that day! Nintendo had a huge section of the con floor and were selling it at Comic Con, but they line was freakin long! I was so happy that I had already preordered my copy. We were greeted as Misty and Ash by the guy who worked there lol The game is amazing! It was so good that after a few days of watching me play Boba bought a 3DS XL and Pokemon X. This isn't the first time something like this has happened lol When I bought the PS Vita the week after it came out, he cracked and bought one the next day. So, he did better this time!
It was definitely an awesome convention! I can't wait to go and cosplay again next year. Of course, I had to take some Misty selfies at the crib. Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Here's a picture a picture of her Levi cosplay from AoT
Nervousness started to creep in once we entered the con; this feeling was mainly due to my wig dilemma. I really wanted to go all out and the one essential piece wasn't on point. After about five minutes of being on the floor, we were asked to have our picture taken! I was super shocked! After that all my nerves melted away. We were asked to take pictures about thirty to forty times. It was a cool feeling : ) We ran into some Misty and Brock couples lol There were a lot of solo Ashes running around. A lot of people complimented Boba on the quality of his cosplay. I would say he had one of the best Ash cosplay that day. There were a lot of times that we had to sit down and take a rest for a bit.
