Thursday
I decided to wear Kagome the first day of the convention since I had already worn her once before at Waku Waku back in August. My commute was a little hectic coming in because of traffic in the George Washington bridge. That's okay, selfie time!
I got to the Javits Center at 11. Which wasn't too bad it was only about an 1 hour after the con opened. I met up with Rae on the walk over. She was killing the game in her Captain America hoodie. It's always such a blast geeking out with her.
The first thing we noticed was the food trucks right outside the Javits. This was the first time since I've been that they've done that. I don't know why they hadn't thought of it before. It really helped with grabbing food as you as you can in or came out.
Walking into NYCC is always so mind blowing because they really go all out. First Rae and I headed to the Artist's Alley to meet up with a few of her friends. Seth Meyer was actually there out in the open. I think he was doing some sort of social experiment and seeing how people would react to him just being there.
We grabbed a corner of Artist Alley that wasn't crowded and took pics of my Kagome cosplay. For some reason I had a few people mistake me for Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon which was a little odd lol
We headed to the showroom to meet up with Boba. While wandering Rae saw a place you could make your own leather wristband. You could use a hammer to beat images into the leather.
Then we found Boba^^
We decided to head to Boba's favorite booth that we visit every year, Equilibrium. It's a place that sells modular wear that's pretty cool. I'm thinking of purchasing a harness from them one day myself.
We decided to grab some food before I got hangry. We settled on the floor on on the upper floor of the cafe area. This became our rest spot throughout the whole con. It was actually a really good spot because it didn't get super crowded and you could sit.
While Boba and I were resting there Kevin Smith was being interviewed and walked literally right by us. Kevin Smith was a few inches in front of us! He was super nice and wasn't ignoring fans that were calling to him. He was accepting hugs and being genuine with people.
We left around 7 and headed back to get some rest. We mostly took our time and didn't see too much of artist alley or the showroom which was the beauty of us having a four day because we had so much time. There wasn't any need to rush^^ The showroom and artist alley were packed booths which was awesome because it gave us a lot to explore for four days.

The whole NYC we wanted to try Cookie Cat because we love Steven Universe, but the tickets for the Fantasy Food truck would go SO fast we never got to. Tiff did get a recipe for it so that we can make it at home.

There was a remote controlled R2D2 running around and making sounds. Ugh, it was so cute! We rushed over, so Rae could meet one of her idols: the creator of Deadpool. He was really funny and charismtic! She was so adorable while she was meeting him.We grabbed a corner of Artist Alley that wasn't crowded and took pics of my Kagome cosplay. On Friday, I wore Bee from Bee and Puppycat. If you haven't seen the online cartoon you should check it out. It's a magical girl series by a lady who worked on Adventure Time, Natasha Allegri. You can watch it on youtube on the Cartoon Hangover account.
I should have practiced tie my ribbons around my ankle for Bee, but alas I didn't -_- Just when I was gonna give up Boba watched some youtube vids and did it. He is seriously the best!
I didn't have much planned for Friday besides attending a panel with Tiffany about yaoi and yuri manga. Right before the panel I ran into Jamie the owner of Black Girl Nerds and had to say hello since I love her content. She was on the blackface panel right before which I really wanted to go to, but couldn't since it was right before the yaoi and yuri panel. She was really sweet and nice^^
The panelists for the Gay Manga, Yaoi and Yuri: LGBTQ Fantasy vs. Reality in Manga were Deb Aoki, Chris Butcher, Erica Friedman and Anne Ishii. They discussed different categories within the two genres. I also learned about a different genre called reality manga that I had never heard about, and there are some authors that write gay manga that tends to be more realistic like the manga "What Did You Eat Yesterday?". One interesting thing that had to make clear was that gay manga and BL/yaoi are different categories which I know a lot of people aren't initially aware of.
It was refreshing to hear people from the LGBTQ community felt about yaoi and yuri. They highlighted the assumption that only gay people read gay manga and the presumption that gay men don't like BL. I also haven't read any yuri so I learned an interesting fact that its written by everyone for everyone and it doesn't have a specific target audience. Erica Friedman remarked that lesbiam comic essays reflect more real life than yuri manga. Whereas my knowledge of BL/yaoi is that its fanbase is mostly teenage girls or young woman. Overall, I thought it was a really informative panel and I enjoyed it a lot.

My turn
Tiff snapped a few photos of me while we waited in line for the panel

After the panel I decided to grab some Starbucks and believe me when I say the line was ratchet as hell. It literally was a 30 minute or more wait. The line was too long! After I got my coffee, we wandered around the show room for the rest of the day. I still didn't see anything I wanted to buy which was fine by me. Less strain on my pockets lol Boba and his sister had a funny story to tell me when we meet back up with them.
Boba commented that he was trying to find some superhero themed lingerie for me (don't ask me why he did this with his sister around lol) and they asked the lady to take the it off the mannequin because a lot of places will pin stuff to the mannequin to make it look smaller. I'm super petite so I have to be careful what I buy. Once the saleslady handed it to him, they both were like this is way too big. So she kept suggesting things, and Boba and Anna were like no she's really petite. At one point the lady just looks at Boba and straight up asks him, "Is she a child?". Like wtf?! They already said I was super petite why would you ask him that!
That's it for this post! I still have one or two more posts about NYCC that will recap Saturday, Sunday, and the LADYBABY concert I went to after the con. Thanks for reading!
