On Friday, Boba and I went to see Divergent. Ugh, it was SO good and thought provoking! I def caught a case of the feels. I need to get the books stat. My bestie Meika saw it a few hours later; she read the books and said that the movie pretty much followed it. Obviously some things had to be left out, but that just makes me want to read the books even more. She also liked that they stayed true to keeping the POC in the books POC in the movies which doesn't happen sometimes.
The only downside was that this awkward girl sat beside us. There were three sits between us and the next person before she sat, so she could have sat in the middle and had a set free on either side of her. But no, she had to sit beside me. At first I was thought maybe she had a friend that was going to join her later, nope she didn't. She proceeded to move uncomfortably in her chair due to the back being broken which she knew and commented to me after she sat in it -_- Um trick, move to the empty seat beside you. AND she talked to herself the whole movie. She tried to talk to me at one point and I wasn't having that ish. My body's been ready for this movie for two months you ARE NOT gonna sit beside me and f this up. No ma'am!
The trailer for The Maze Runner blew my mind. I told Meika to be on the lookout for it, but she said she didn't get the same trailers I did. She ended up watching it on YouTube. I think she's down for the cause. It'll be another movie we'll run to see. I ain't gonna lie the trailer did scare me a bit lol I also got to see the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. Boba's gonna sprint to the box office for that one lol
Of course we had to play the what faction would I be in game. He swears up and down I'm Dauntless. I had to explain to him that I don't like to do anything physical unless I want to, that's one of the reasons I quit track after junior high lol I figure I would probably be a divergent. He can't decided if he would be smart or kind. I told him he'd probably be a divergent, too.
I was surprised at how much I liked Four and the actor that portrayed him. At first I wasn't really feeling the actor, but he did an amazing job. I felt that he added a lot of depth to the character. It could have been the cliche tough, silent guy, but he made Four feel more complex. I felt like he was very observant, smart, and slightly troubled.

Boba made an interesting comment about the villain and how she would make super ignorant comment. He said that she kept making these really illogical statements about the factions and society. I am used to being around super academic people that were completely out of touch with people and human emotion due to where I went to school. From my experience these kinds of people have heavily participated in hate and isms (i.e. racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.) and simply could not understand what POC, disabled, and LGBTQ had to deal with. They did not respect psychology or sociology. Or thought that simply because they studied a language, lived in a different country, or read a book that they were an expert and could speak over said group. And if you confronted them they would use all sorts of illogical arguments to insist that they were right. *slight spoiler and analysis ahead, skip to the next paragraph to avoid it* So, I could completely understand why she would make such statements as an Erudite. She had made up in her head that there were no reason for Abnegation to exist and control the government. So, she had no problem making up lies and exterminate them to get what she wanted because she probably had all these theories in her head as to how this was the right thing and would be better for society even though it was clearly wrong to do. She was so far removed from human emotion and so steeped in being intellectual that she could not comprehend how wrong she was. I feel like this is something we experience today with people being 'colorblind' or 'too educated to be racist'. Many people hide a hateful view and will write very ignorant or offensive things behind the mask of 'intellectualism' when it is merely hate. And many do what Jeanine Matthews does, explain it away with "facts". I like to say these kinds of people are book smart, but not people smart. And of course there were other themes like how you couldn't put people into a box. I mean look at how boss her father behaved! That scene was really sad too though. Feel free to tell me your thoughts!
After the movie we went to Barcade in Brooklyn for our friend's birthday celebration. Boba and his roommates have this whole super cute Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles thing where they're each a turtle. Boba is Donatello lol Barcade had one of the old school four player TMNT's game. Boba and two of his roomies got to play as their turtle and another friend played as Michelangelo; it was super cute.
We ended the night by getting takeout at this delicious Japanese restaurant and watching Miami Vice. Edward James Olmos' expressions are priceless. After we stuffed ourselves, Boba asked me to put up the food. I jokingly told him no. He told me to look at the screen. I saw out of the corner of my eye him pausing the show, so I knew he was up to something so I said no. He kept asking me until I finally did it. Right when my eyes saw the image he said, "Put my food up!" mimicking the tone as Edward James Olmos' character. Yo! I was slain! I literally laughed while crying it was that funny to me. We sat there laughing for like ten minutes. Here's the lovely pic:
